Finding Connection and Community in Collaboration
Thank you for being here! I have loved music my entire life but when I started playing the oboe when I was 10 years old, I had NO idea I would make it my career! In fact, even when I was a senior in high school I didn't know! Through many twists and turns I have found that in addition to playing my oboe, teaching students privately has also become a passion of mine.
I have worked with children as young as 6 and adults in their 80's! I believe the oboe can (and should) be accessible to everyone and in my career of teaching for 25+ years I have worked with many different personalities and abilities. There is joy to be found in the oboe for everyone! Now, as far as reeds...maybe not so much... ;)
Below you will find an abundance of information on what being a part of my studio is like and if you would like to read what some of my students and parents have said, click the button below!
I am quickly approaching waitlist status, so please contact me ASAP to see if we can continue your oboe journey together!
Length is customized to each student’s needs. Lessons can be 30, 45 or 60-minutes. This is dependent on experience, reed-making involvement and what works in your family’s schedule.
This is also customized with each student. Variables that affect this decision are my availability and/or the student’s schedule as well as the student’s current needs. For a new student, I typically begin with 30-minute weekly lessons then assess the student’s needs as they progress.
Lessons are taught in Lancaster & York Counties. Lesson days and times vary. Please contact me to schedule a lesson and check for availability.
As they are available, I do provide reeds for my students at a discounted rate of $25/reed. Reeds for the general public are $30/reed. Advanced notice of 2 weeks is appreciated and preferred!
Students are expected to practice! Practice length and frequency is tailored for each student, but frequent, consistent practice will always yield the most growth. Younger oboe students typically need to practice in shorter segments of time more frequently to help build their embouchure before they can play for longer periods of time.
I ask that all students consult with me to adjust their schedule (if needed) a few days before the 1st of the month so that our schedules align and correct payment is charged (rescheduling those lessons is highly encouraged!). Once that has been determined, you will be invoiced for the upcoming month based on that amount of lessons. Please call, text, or email me 24-hours in advance if you need to cancel a lesson. No refunds will be given once payment is made, however, rescheduled lessons are always an option if it is possible (either in-person or online).
If a scheduled lesson needs to be canceled, I ask that a makeup lesson be scheduled if at all possible. If it isn’t possible in-person, I do offer an online option of a Zoom/FaceTime/FB Messenger lesson.
I encourage in-person lessons if at all possible. However, I am always open to teaching long distance students and make-up lessons via Zoom, FaceTime or FB Messenger if needed!
Invoices are emailed at the beginning of every month. In addition, a monthly reminder email is sent at the beginning of every month. Text reminders of your upcoming lesson are sent 24-hours in advance. Payments are due by the 15th of every month based on the amount of lessons that are scheduled for that month. I currently accept payment via cash, check, Venmo, PayPal & ApplePay. If payment is made after the 15th, a late charge of $20 will be added to your account on the 16th.
Any questionable behavior by the student will immediately be discussed with the parent and expectations will be outlined.
In the event that a student needs to withdraw from lessons whether for an extended “break” or termination of lessons, 4 weeks of advance notice is required (and the payment for those 4 weeks). If returning to the studio at a later date, space in the schedule and/or the previous time slot cannot be guaranteed. No refunds are given if termination is made by the student and payment has already been made.
