Life Between The Notes is a community-based project geared towards bringing the south central PA music community together with a collection of interviews of local musicians, creating a historical archive of the rich musical history in this area. We intend to provide all of our local musicians (and generations of future musicians) a resource from which to draw upon our interview subjects' experiences. Throughout the Covid pandemic that began affecting us in the spring of 2020, musicians have suffered through losses of income, well-being and peace. Through these interviews, shared ideas, and musings we will strive to bring helpful information, fun and inspiration to our new space on social media.
Kirstin Myers and Morgann Davis are freelance musicians in south central PA who have a deep desire to connect with the rich musical history of this region. Their mission is to archive the stories and lives of local musicians for their students, colleagues and the public at-large.
Welcome to Life Between The Notes, we are SO glad you’re here!
I’m Kirstin, born in Berks county and raised in the heart of beautiful Lancaster county, I am a freelance oboe performer and teacher in the south central PA area. I perform regularly with the York Symphony Orchestra, Berks Sinfonietta, Reading Pops Orchestra, The Silverwood Trio, Trio Jolie and Double Keyed. I’m currently fortunate enough to have a large private teaching studio of fabulous students in addition to my collegiate appointments at the Tell School of Music at Millersville University, Lebanon Valley College and York College of PA.
Throughout the tumult of the Covid pandemic that wreaked havoc in the lives of so many, I wanted to find a way to help bring the local music community together in some way. Finding a shared passion for the music community in our area with my colleague, Morgann Davis, the result was the creation of the podcast Life Between the Notes. Through our interviews, I hope for listeners to find some inspiration, insight, motivation, humor, and camaraderie in the episodes that unfold.
I am eternally grateful for my husband, 3 children, 3 cats and Maggie The Dog. Without their support, this wouldn’t be possible.
Hi, I’m Morgann and I’ve been a musician living in Lancaster for a whole decade now. Normally I call myself a transplant, but after ten years I feel like that label isn’t quite right anymore. When I moved here I planned to only stay a few years but the people, opportunities, and benefits of living here won out and I never left. Now I’m fortunate to teach a lot of wonderful flute students both privately and at Millersville University, play in a number of regional orchestras, and enjoy a bunch of side projects like this podcast.
Meeting Kirstin and taking on this project with her is the perfect example of what a great musical culture we live in here, and I’m excited to highlight how many incredible teachers and performers there are making music a major cultural component of our area.
In addition to performing and teaching I also love to do yoga and recently completed my 200hr teacher certification. I’m having so much fun learning about the mind-body connection and incorporating yoga into my performing and teaching. I continue to be grateful that this area is where I landed. I love living in downtown Lancaster with my husband and walking to our favorite places, including The Lancaster Central Market, and on an ideal day you’ll find me curled up somewhere with a cup of coffee and a tall stack of good books.
